Conscious Bingeing
Oh the joy of bingeing!
Who doesn’t love to get sucked into a good show?
It’s a delightful surrender when we get so engrossed on a good movie trilogy or a multi-season show!
There is a dark side to it of course.
We realize this when the show ends and we scream sometimes out loud… NOOOOOO!!!! #addict
Or, how our stiff our back or weird our eyes feel. #sore
Or, that we did nothing we were supposed to and instead cleaned out the chips and chocolate cupboard. #WhoAteAllTheBiscuits
I don’t know about you, as much as I love being engrossed, the more unpleasant outcomes started to bother me.
The simple solution would be to portion control whatever I’m watching, and that would be wise, but I wasn’t interested in that!
Neither am I interested in judging myself or others for the amount of screen-time.
So, I had to find a creative solution that amped up my joy and reduced the less-joyful moments.
I talked to a friend. She shared that her way is to use a medicine ball (weighted ball) while she is sitting and watching shows in the evening. So she gets some light toning in.
My remembered as a child that my mom, sewed and knitted.
So, my new solution (which I’m currently playing with) is to move myself onto my floor while watching, and do stretches. Or simply just massaging my feet and hands.
My thought was this: watching a show pulls in the mind and emotion, but leaves our body on the couch, rather like a potato.
So, we tend to want to munch on something while watching our favourite show. Or, we become so still that we don’t move or take a deep normal breath!
Perhaps, my body, our bodies are being left out of the joy of bingeing and that didn’t seem fair to me.
How to include my body in my watching activity without constantly stuffing my face?
Movement was the answer.
So far, 2 weeks in, it’s pretty good. I still snack, but not as much, and my body is engaged in a different (non-digesting) way!
I get my binge on, and stretch out my body; Win - Win!
I’m sure there are many more creative ways I haven’t tried!
How do you get your binge on in a way that honours all of you?
