"I'm Open to Receiving.... No Wait, I'm Not! Ahhhhh!"
On Leo Season: Receiving Gifts & Goodness, Peaceful Pauses & Breaking Stones with Perseus
Receiving Gifts & Goodness
We work very hard on our spiritual quests and side-quests.
We have to face and heal our past, our traumas, what we have rejected or repressed, what has been shunned and the likes.
We dive into the truth behind our attachments to self-liberate.
These are hard moments.
There are other moments too… like when we spontaneously feel into miracles, into ease or inner peace and bliss. When look up to our bedroom ceiling and ask for something, and it shows up near-instantly.
These are good moments.
And funnily, they can also be difficult for us.
Difficult to trust, to receive, to let in.
Maybe we aren’t sure we deserve it.
Maybe we have been hurt in the past, so we are suspicious.
Maybe our logic cannot allow us to comprehend it.
When I find myself here, I am quick to observe it, and utter a chant of gratitude in my mind. I am less quick to allow and feel into receptivity.
For some of us, it takes work to truly receive what is good, what has shown up brilliantly for us, what is more than what we expect (or what we think we deserve), what is here just for us.
I call this the work of reclaiming our gifts and miracles (or magic, if you prefer). Although, it may be more correct to say we are reclaiming our part in the equation of life where we are receptive to the storm of incredible beauty that pours forth into us.
This 'figurative’ rain is actually literal this week as the Perseids Meteor showers make their annual return to Earth. Many cultures across the world celebrate this season as a time of open, and even synchronous messaging with the Divine (think instant messaging versus sending an email and waiting for a reply), with ancestors, passed souls, and/or one’s Cosmic/ Star family.
Accepting gifts (magical, miraculous or material) is hard for those of us who question or doubt our self-worth. It is also challenging for those of us who experience entitlement, because our relationship to gifts/ miracles is trapped in the mind (where expectations live), and not the heart. This is why the Perseids meteor shower this year, in 2025 is extra awesome.
But First…a Cool Myth Behind the Perseids
The Perseids are named so because the meteor shower originates from the constellation Perseus (from the perspective of Earth). Perseus is famous in Greek myth as a half divine half mortal son of Zeus who slayed Medusa, the Gorgon using his wit and understanding of reflections and mirrors (he averted her stone-turning gaze unto herself).
Whether Medusa was good, bad or a woman of unfortunate circumstance is a topic of debate, but for our purposes now, the classical view is interesting. Perseus uses his wit and understanding of his surroundings rather than using brute force or strength. He is also helped by a lot of people including the Goddess Athena and Hermes, and this doesn’t take away from his hero-status.
The Perseid Meteors emerge from the constellation named after him, bringing towards Earth some of the qualities, sentiment and reminders of his myth.
Personally, the part I’m sitting with this season is the sitting in reflection of what is is stone-like or rigid within me, which is around receptivity. But the beauty of old myths and stories is that different parts of the tale will resonate or shift something within us.
Help from the Solar Family
If you are a star-gazer, you know how humbling it is to behold a shower of millions of diamonds at 2am on a cloud-less night in early August. Depending on where you live and the weather conditions, the Perseids can be viewed between August 11-13th 2025.
I am someone who believes that everything is here for us—to help us and guide us—and that includes the dance of the planets around the Sun.
What I feel now, in this part of Leo season is a lot of newness which is accessible to us. The newness is fragile and subtle; not exactly obvious, but it is there. In astrology, I understand this as several planets being in very early degrees of new signs of the zodiac. When planets are in early degrees (between 0° - 3° in a new sign), it feels to me like new, fresh winds that can move out what has been stagnant. These winds blow in different directions and with different intensity, reminding us of the subtle fragrance of what is possibly on it’s way to us. Like in the myth of Perseus, his realizing that a reflection can divert a stoney-gaze. I see it as:
…New routines, rituals, disciplines and structures that support and even propel us towards our true direction with Saturn in Aries.
…Unexpected and unplanned situations, relationship with mystery that doesn’t dis-regulate the nervous system, an communication styles that heal rather than divide with Uranus in Gemini.
…A totally new felt sense with our dreams where we access passion through the unconscious and can direct (with less need for escapism) with Neptune in Aries.
…A renaissance of technology - where the structures that limit or distort our sense of belonging, expressing our purpose, and celebrating community are replaced by better options - with Pluto in Aquarius.
I think of these planetary transits in combination with the Meteor Shower as clearing the slate, and building towards something new within us and for us.
What we perceive as a meteor shower, is the debris field within our solar system burning up upon contact with the Earth’s atmosphere as she moves through it. So, ‘clean slate’ feels especially apt. And since newness unto itself isn’t sustainable, there are new pathways, new dreams and new potentials to build towards so that we are guided and supported. There is also a grand sense of discernment available where we get to look at our current state and reuse, re-purpose or up-cycle towards something that is more supportive.
To me this means a radical sense of safety and rootedness within, so that we are open and stable when Divine communication pings us, like an alert on our phone notifying us that the text we’ve been waiting for has arrived… and it is good.
Did you witness the Perseids this year?
With your outer eyes or inner eye? I’d love to hear from you!

The Peace Pause - a Replay
Earlier this week, I was a part of this incredible session called the Peace Pause hosted by
.It was an incredible 2 hours of exploring the textures of Peace within us. Over 25 of us gathered with a community of over 440 people to share and connect with different ways we feel, rest in, or activate peace within us. It included Slam Poetry (I know, right?!?!) by Dakota Earth Cloud Walker, which felt like honey to my soul.
If you’re eager to seek or contribute to a little more peace in your week, here is the replay. I’m hanging out in the bottom left corner.
Note: This gathering took place on InsightTimer, which like Substack is an incredibly sweet community. Violet108 does these great LIVES, so give her a follow if you are looking to participate!
My work on InsightTimer is about the relating to the technologies of our world from a more liberated place within us (i.e. when we stand at the altar of Inner Alchemy).
It was good to see a write up instead of a video - I prefer these! And a lovely topic, which also reasonated a lot. Thankbyou and enjoy your break!
