Following the Rabbit
Most of us have experienced going down a rabbit hole while we obsessively researched a topic.
Like Alice in her story, we get curious and is takes us over. We crawl under and jump over things and sometimes we tumble down into a seemingly bottomless pit.
I’ve been down rabbit holes of truths, conspiracy, crypto and money, astrology, Yogic philosophies, Native Medicine Wheels, quantum physics and a variety of other topics over the last many years.
It was necessary.
There was something unknowable to me that I needed to know and deep diving into a subject was the only way I knew how to know.
Deep diving into a topic of study or interest, marinating in it and revelling in that experience is a brilliant and dynamic way to learn for kids and adults alike.
But I realized eventually that going down a rabbit hole, didn’t feel like the pure innocent joy of quenching a thirst for learning. Often, our respective rabbits pull us, and we are helpless in our desire to follow to see where it leads, even when it is down a pit with Alice.
In a way, following the Rabbit to me is like following our desire and being pulled by it; not knowing why, but doing it repeatedly.
But this year and these times are different.
We now know. We have known for a while.
So where is our desire-rabbit leading us know? Is it down more rabbit holes? Is it running around in circles? It is exploring new territory on the forest floor?
Roots of Desire
Going down a rabbit hole can be fulfilling while we are mining, learning and uncovering.
For me, at some point, it became obsessive.
I didn’t know why I was doing it - to prove I was right? to justify something? to have debate arguments ready at a moments notice?
So, I had to develop a practice of clarity and acceptance in learning what my desires actually are and owning them; not expecting them, but working towards them actively.
Part of this is coming to understand why we desire what we desire.
If we want more money, is it so that we can prove something to friends and family? Or do we want it because we want options and freedom in our life that we didn’t have before?
If we want love, is it because we want someone to love and accept us and keep us company when we are bored?
This is a surprisingly hard question to answer at times, because often our desires have unconscious roots that we cannot see.
Sometimes the biggest rabbit holes we descend into, are the ones within.
Once we know why we want what we want, I believe it gives us a strong sense of clarity and purpose in pursuing said desires.
Then it becomes a bit more natural for us to restructure our day, carve out time, integrate our learnings, and start creating the world we want from a place of Knowing and Love (rather than what we do not want, from reaction to the world).
Desire for me has started to evolve from the rabbit I used to chase and follow, to the arrowhead I am choosing to forge.
It is forged in the fires of intellect and the waters of intuition both.
All my years of descending into rabbit holes on the internet and in libraries has equipped me with healthy skills of research and questioning.
As well, my inner journeys have given me a level of attunement and I’m able to differentiate between essential Inner Truths from convenient beliefs and pre-existing matrix programmes.
The arrowhead symbolizes a focus point - the thing I desire.
Of course it takes a lot of other things to hit the bullseye - the rest of the arrow, the bow, the posture and stance, the ability and skill to use the instrument, listen to the wind and visualize the target.
I’m not there as yet.
I am still in the forge right now. I know there are many other steps, but this is what I’m learning in this moment.
I’ve come to know that there is a Peace in being exactly where we are right now in this moment. An acceptance of the Present moment.
There are still rabbits and holes to fall into, but we are no longer compelled by the chase.
As Masters and Creators of our own life experience, we can choose when we chase, when we stay and when we do something completely different - like forge.
I think this will serve us as more of this year unfolds.
A lot of us are looking forward to Truths rising and the coming of a New World - whether it is personal or collective New World. Some of us are at the edge of exhaustion, hopelessness and despair with personal and world events.
But truths don’t rise clearly and cleanly in one go.
Hope, Faith and solutions don’t always descend from the Heavens like lightning bolts.
Truths may show up in the unlikeliest of places in the unlikeliest of ways. They may be caked in misconception and lie under distortions and greed.
And so our desire - to interact with the world or hide from it, to reveal ourselves or uncover situations, to believe in a better world or despairingly accept the one we woke up in - is a big part of us recognizing ourselves in relationship to our world.
There is a reconciliation here as well.
The world and life we want and believe in, may not be the one we see today.
We may become frustrated and hopeless.
Again, this is where the arrowhead of knowing why we want what we want can help us out a little.
Do we want our family to be nicer to us so that we feel better about ourselves?
Do we want more money because we are tired of being poor and desperate?
When these things don’t transpire, are we giving up?
So, we learn the depths of our desire now, truthfully and in wholeness.
Because we know that we can only ever change ourselves.
And so, instead of wanting the world to change, we become the change in the world.
Instead of waiting for the world and life to become better, to improve; we pour consciousness into our Being, our World and our Life.
We start to see and recognize wealth that already exists; we expand and accept opportunities when they show up.
Now, our Desires start to help us evolve our life experience and our Creation.
We are no longer pulled in all directions by them.
The true nature of our Desires is to service us by expressing want for Soul-level dreams.
We now have the freedom, the integrity, ability to have desires and dance them into existence.
The Flow of Life moves through us, and we move with Life.
