I heard this phrase today: ‘The Soundness of Money’ in a video that explained the life cycle of currencies; how they collapse and new ones rise.
In the world of Finance, Sound Money maintains its value in a true and stable way, while also performing its job, which is to be a medium of exchange. Though there are more features in making money sound, it’s really not any more interesting than that.
What is interesting is where we find ourselves today – amidst transformation, both quiet and loud, both inner and outer, between what is present and what is ancient.
I like this phrase – Soundness of Money – because, it got me thinking about frequency, and in fact the sounds and frequency of the words we utter.
So, I looked up the etymology of some words…
Money - it comes from the Latin word meaning mint.
Wealth - comes from the Old English word wela or weal, meaning well-being and happiness.
Health – comes from a Proto-Germanic word meaning whole, well or sound.
If you’re interested in playing here, imagine this… what if, when we spoke the word Wealth (our vocal chords, our tongue and mouth uttered the sounds that make up the word wealth), we actually incant the vibration of well-being, happiness and health.
What does that feel like?
Actually.
Close your eyes, and utter these words, and allow yourself to breathe and see, feel and hear what the utterance of each of these words actually sounds like and what rings and rises within us.
If money is something you think about often, if you switch the words around (swap money for wealth or vice versa), what does that sound like? What are the feelings associated with that sound?
Maybe it is obvious, maybe this is silly and you feel nothing at all, maybe it’s very subtle, maybe reminds you of you know to be true.
It’s like jamming with an instrument. You have an idea of a song, and you adjust the harmonies of keys and strings.
Regardless of what came up for us, what we think money or wealth are personally or globally, or what we want the world to be, I think we all have to play Composer at some point in time. We acknowledge our words, thoughts and feelings, our family patterns around money perhaps, and see that they all have a sound to them – some more pleasant than others. And our job then, becomes, not to just have more of one thing, but to write all the sounds into our unique harmony.
Perhaps we create a whole new set of tunes never before hear, or perhaps we bring these sounds back into a rhythm of well-being and prosperity.
To do either, requires great courage and an ear for the truth.
What is your truth around money?
Not what a bank or a government is doing.
Not what you saw in the new this morning.
Not what your grandparents said about inflation.
What is the sound of your truth - un-regurgitated, raw and absolutely yours.
Do you have lots of money but you still fear and you feel lack? Do you have none and wonder why it never comes to you? Do you get swayed by other people’s investment choices even when they haven’t worked out for you?
If you aren’t sure, observe the words you tell yourself. Listen closely to sound of your voice when you talk about money matters – yours or someone else’s.
Knowing the sound, is the first step. Desiring what to do with it, is the second.
Maybe you’re doing great with money but you have guilt around it.
That’s the beauty of frequency, it cannot be hoarded, not really. So, there are always things we can do. The question is what to do that doesn’t steam from guilt or fear or lack, but rather from overflow, love and wellness.
This is the bringing of sounds together and creating harmony. So that the noise of conflicting, out-of-tune, overbearing notes have guidance.
If you are in a place where you have concerns around money, I leave you with this…
Your concerns and fears are guiding you towards Mastery towards making your own song, rather than being forced into a tune that isn’t of your making. You aren’t giving into those fears and issues, rather, you are learning to acknowledge them, making them guides. You are learning to listen to the truths of your own thoughts and feelings so that you have a map or a note-sheet to create. You are learning to write your own music, to become a Composer, with every perceived mistake being a crumpled piece of paper lying on your floor, taking you one step closer to your Masterpiece.
