Guru is Sanskrit word that translates to master, guide or mentor.
When someone says the word ‘Guru’, what image comes to your mind?
The one is mine, is of an ancient man sitting atop a mountain. He looks wise, universal and innocent.
Similarly, the words ‘master’ and ‘mentor’ makes me think of Yoda and other Jedis. And ‘guide’ makes me think of a Sherpa leading me up a mountain.
The point is, I don’t think of the Guru within. My own inner guidance doesn’t show up as a possible well-spring of intuitive information in my own mind.
I find this such a perfect musing for this coming Sagittarius New Moon!
It is the end of the November 2022 as I write this, and the skies are aflame with cosmic fires as a bunch of planets decided to have a party in the zodiac sign of Sagittarius.
The energy here is big and possible. Lots of creativity, ideas, questions, directions and thoughts open up. After the heavier energies of the Eclipses that just passed, this week brings in the first gush of freeze breeze.
Breathe it in!
Momentum and follow-through though are a different story thought, but we’ll get to that later.
So, let’s imagine this Guru of ours - inner or outer.
And we are sitting in presence of this Master, eagerly waiting to ask many questions bubbling up within us.
But this Guru isn’t interested in our eager list of questions.
This Guru asks:
Who are you?
What do you want?
What burns inside you?
Why do you want it? Who does it serve?
Maybe we are quick to answer.
And our Guru asks us the same questions again, and again and again, until we realize that we have been replying from our mind, from our personality-self, or our created interface.
And we sigh, because each question is an evolving journey.
Big energy like this, is about big questions. Things we cannot see and that aren’t immediate and as such gratification, satisfaction and resolutions aren’t instant either.
These are the questions that help us see if we are aligned with our Soul path truthfully, and what is in the way, and why. Are we just telling ourselves that we are on our Soul path and ignoring what we don’t want to see?
So, in your inner quest to answer these questions perhaps you have an amazing vision rather suddenly.
An idea that brings your dreams so much closer that you can taste it and feel it.
As if it’s already happening right now.
One of the amazing thing about fresh possibilities is that there are no limits. It’s a dream and a vision, maybe a knowing.
So when obstacles, delays, impatience, misunderstandings and miscommunications take place, it’s definitely a bummer.
One of the amazing things about this particular New Moon is that it’s a party with a few other epic planets. Part of how I’m interpreting this is that we get to artfully and lovingly enjoy our vision. We get to savour and slow down for a few moments, simply enjoying the act of visioning, believing, dreaming and letting ourselves colour and create. We also get to evolve our perceptions and how we communicate our brilliant vision. This is the gift of the upcoming Gemini Full Moon that follows two weeks later. It offers the way to convert obstacles into clarity, opportunities and lessons that improve the process of manifesting our vision. We get to talk with those we trust and tease out the necessities, perhaps even asking for needed help or guidance.
There are cautionary words to this cosmic transit as well. They are over-indulgence, exaggeration and over-doing the dreaming. This would be like getting so caught up in your awesome idea that you never get around to actually doing it. Or, being so attached to wanting the vision exactly as you saw it, that you become unyielding to every thing and everyone else.
Attachments, judgements, intolerance and staying in dream-states may also show up to this party, and those are guests we can choose not to engage with.
To temper these types of experiences, we get to practice working with our Guru-Self, the consciousness within that knows all our clever little tricks and workarounds, and encourages us to effort in the direction of truth. So, if we start perceiving that others are obstacles to our dreams, instead of imagining some form of vengeance upon them, we have the chance to elevate the energy for ourselves and them, by pulling in a higher more solution-oriented consciousness.
Holding witness to our words, thoughts and hidden emotions and beliefs are also part of the medicine here.
As is taking it one step at a time, and one day at a time to neutralize the overwhelm.
A tremendous lesson of this Sagittarius season is to dream big and behold the magnificent awesomeness of it without attaching to the specific way, the exact vision and desired timelines. One without the other keeps us stuck where we were.
Usually this takes a lot of effort, but this energy is more available to us this season, should we choose to receive it.
When we are free to dream, to feel, to expand, we get to behold ourselves in our truer forms. Our open Heart and our Illuminated Mind keep us steady as embark on the multi-step journey towards these dreams. Our feet already know the way.
This and more is available and offered to us, should we be open to receiving it from our Cosmic Gurus - whether they are alive within or outside us, whether they are people or poems from old books.
One of my areas of work this week under the guidance of the stars is to balance what I know within with what I trust from without.
A habit I’m breaking this week is minimizing myself and deflecting attention when I’m called to something big. This comes up when I’m in conversation with some of my brilliant friends who actually see me. This is the thing that doesn’t let me perceive my Guru within or honour my own Mastery at times, because I don’t want to look at it.
This is hard, not only from a self worth and value place, but also because it forces me to ask the question: Who am I when I’m in my knowing and power and what will I do from here?
I know I will have to face my fears of arrogance and patterns of judgement as well as memories of myself struggling as a student under the whip of some terrible teachers. I also face my excuses and where I need to build up my sense of commitment and integrity.
But it’s all good, because I’m not alone.
We do this work together.
Together, we face the uncertainties of our respective new beginnings as we map out our journeys through these Winter months, honouring all our resources, responsibilities and needs.
Together, we get to dream and effort to higher and better creations that will nourish us and our world, instead of solely being consumed with linear thinking and problems.
Together, we awaken and honour the Gurus in our life - within and without - and walk forward activated in collective wisdom.
Love and stars to every one of you. Happy New Beginnings!
