This week, we may find ourselves at a crossroad with two paths of power before us.
One path is known and familiar. We have walked it for generations. This is the path where we understand power as force and dominion.
This familiar path twists and turns into every aspect of our lives - money, career, work, relationships, desires, politics, our identity, our life and world view, experiences, how we make decisions, who we are, how we receive the world and how we show up in life.
On some level, when we talk upon this path, we believe ourselves to be separate from Source, Divine Power and our Spirit Truth.
We both believe this and experience it as such.
Our dreams and desires reflect this separation and we exert our will on the present moment, often wanting to be anywhere but here and now.
People often tell me that they cannot sit and meditate and quiet their mind.
What may actually be happening is that they can do so, but just for a moment. Because then, the space they create between two thoughts is interrupted by more thoughts, ideas, memories, distractions or a narrative of boredom. What follows is an emotional battle around those thoughts that leave the person feeling anything but meditative.
I have come to understand a bit more about the subtle nature behind this experience.
When we feel bad and want to feel good, when we feel stress and want to feel calm, when we feel crazy angry and desire peace and clarity, we may actually be fighting our present moment, often unconsciously.
Our present moment is telling us one thing and we wish and will it to be something else. This can look like denial or bypassing the depth of what is really there in the moment. It can also look like shame, guilt, frustration and aggression. This can be repressed and internal, or it can come out at people we love the most.
This is us forcing space and ideas of what we believe calm and good look like onto ourselves, others and the world.
We may feel peaceful in moments on this path, but it is temporary and constantly under threat. Alternatively, we may mistake the energy of Peace for the momentary absence of anger, fear, insecurity and hatred.
All of this and more like it comes from walking that deeply trenched path of force, masquerading as power.
When we walk the path of force, we have to establish our individual identity upon the society and the world.
We desire things like ‘leaving our mark’ or legacy.
We run on the hamster-wheel of life, motivated by the next hit, upgrade or promotion.
Our will is separate from Divine Will and the pain and dissatisfaction of this leaves us seeking external validation both desperately and constantly.
We need to be in control, have lots of goals and make a lot of plans.
We have set ideas of self and identity and this drives our ambition, our choices and our preferences.
We either exert ourselves on the world or we are exerted upon, because this is our understanding of power - in our inner world and our outer world.
But there is another way. For we are at a crossroad.
This week’s Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon in the sign of Scorpio illuminates this other path.
This path is unfamiliar to us. It’s less of a path and more of a way though, as it is not paved and entrenched. It has not been walked before. It looks overgrown and there is no clear spot to land your hands and feet next. The road isn’t marked out in brick and we are unsure of what direction we are facing or taking.
This path also twists and turns through all aspects of life - money, career, work, relationships, desires, politics, our identity, our life and world view, experiences, how we make decisions, who we are, how we receive the world and how we show up in life.
But we move very differently here.
It feels like caution at first, since we do not know what we are doing. But that caution is able to melt into a dance of intuition and intellect, trust and surrender, flow and knowing.
To walk on this path, we have to tune into our other senses - intuition, smell, listening and feeling. In it’s highest expression, we are also tuned into God, the Divine and Higher Self as all these serve as a compass to help us navigate and choose our next steps.
This process may seem slow and annoying. We may feel that it is more efficient running along our original path that is perfectly paved.
This is where we have choice.
We are choosing to walk a path that is forged of our own making or be yet another character who has walked a path that someone else has forged.
We may make one type of choice when it comes to work and another type of choice when it comes to relationships.
The illumination of this Full Moon is that there is choice. And in choice, there is great personal power.
We are no longer walked on default down one path, unaware that there are options and choices available to us moment to moment.
We are not choosing between what is familiar and what is unknown.
We are choosing where we source our power from.
On the first path, our power comes from the established collective consciousness and the paradigms that exist there.
On this second path, the new way, our power is realized within and supported in ineffable ways.
On this second path, we learn the majesty of True Power as it flows into us and through us and permeates into every aspect of our lives. It is indescribable in many ways. I experience this as alignment to Universal Oneness, though not in an abstract capacity. It is certainly subtle; it is also obvious and tangible in surprising ways.
This week, it has taken the form of a stream of inspiration and small action steps towards what I thought was my dream. It has taken the form of realizing that my dreams and desires do not only serve me, they are much larger and I may never know their true size and impact.
It feels a bit like having dreams, desires and will that are both mine and the Divine’s. It is no longer a personal goal or mission, like walking on a path to get to a destination; rather, it feels like I am dissolving into the magnificent path upon which I walk and all that I could ever want, I already have, in a way.
This allows for a completely different understanding of power and consciousness of how to use it.
In a way, this is why there are now two paths before us now. The paths of power diverge because our understanding of power - both internal and external - is shifting.
On our familiar path, we are in the mode of ‘Power Over’ ourselves, others and life. All our relationships, including the one with ourselves, can be defined by power dynamics, politics and who emerges strong versus weak.
On the new path available to us now, we are in our own Power, or empowered. We have Mastery over the present moment without needing to control constructs, environments, people or contrive situations where are seen in a preferred light. The dynamic here is Acceptance and Transformation.
Mastering YourSelf is True Power.
- Lao Tzu
This new path puts us through some trials and tests to ensure that we have the courage, strength and trust to stay on course aligned to our already Perfect nature. This is the path of Illumination, which comes from deeply trusting the navigation of our entire Being - no longer considered separate from Divine Consciousness.
This is the path where we realize more about the nature of our Self and our World, Human and God, our dreams, desires, actions and the steps that unfold, moment to moment.
This is the power to shift things.
This is the power to transform with Love, Peace and Patience into more Love, more Peace and more Generosity.
It is simple. It is not obvious, especially to those who are running along that first path.
But over the next few nights, if you take the time to pause and listen deeply, you will hear the crossroads before you see them.
You will smell the choice that has always been yours to make.
You will feel and intuit that there is another way through, even though you cannot see it in the moment.
This is you, starting to bathe in luminosity of Power and Mastery.
