The Reflective & Inspiring Power of Stories
An interview on character inspirations and what what they taught me
A few months ago, my incredibly talented friend
had me on her show and I’m thrilled to share that interview here!Rachel and I always had a deep love for comics. While comics have historically been considered childish, immature or nerdy, watching character archetypes evolve (or devolve) through the ages, pages, shows and screens has been a big part of ‘how I figure things out’.
Archetypes and stories are illuminating because they tend to play out those aspects of our consciousness. We can of course get into comparison (which hero is the strongest) and judgement (hating characters or choices), but truthfully…
…what would we choose to do (or not do) in that same scenario?
Through Aquarius season, we are exploring the myth and archetype of Hercules and his 11th labour: Cleaning out the Augean Stables (if you missed it, watch the intro here). It got me thinking… why stop there!
Comic and fantasy characters, like the heroes and legends of old, can be so delightfully reflective as they move through their trials, wins, emotions, powers, imperfections and story arcs.
In this interview, Rachel and I share our top 5 character inspirations from the fantasy realm (shows and comics books), what aspects of these characters resonated with us and how the character journey helped us accept some part of ourselves.
Show-notes: Rachel’s show is called Truth Beauty Freedom Love and it’s part of her production and events company—Gold Suga—that she runs with her awesome husband Kevin. They are edgy, cosmic, really physically fit, and generally amazing humans all around. I highly recommend checking out their work!
My beautiful friend! Thank you so much for sharing our conversation - I think we are due to do our Top 3 Comic Book crushes LIVE very soon xoxoxoxo
