We are entering the New Moon in Pisces, which dances across our skies around February 20th, 2023.
There are many reasons I deeply value my alignment and connection with the Moon. One of the quieter reasons is because in almost every way, it is the exact opposite of what my connection is to the Sun.
Under the light of the Sun, we can see.
It is bright and warm. It is day time and we are full of activities, purpose, action and doing. We behold and interact with other in clear and obvious ways. The flowers bloom, birds sing and streets bustle.
Underneath the dark of the Moon, New Moons especially, who we know ourselves to be, is very different. There is little to no natural light. It is a space of non-doing, receptivity, connection, intuiting. It is dark and perhaps foggy and unclear and we cannot always see where our feet are walking. Interactions with others and work projects hold an unconscious power and beckon forth our hidden aspirations, agendas, desires and needs.
In our world, we have recreated the light of the Sun into a light-bulb and so now, most of us spend our nights as an extension of our days.
So, to clarify, in this piece when I speak of the dark light of New Moon, I mean it in terms of consciousness and personal expression, if we allow ourselves to connect to it.
Integrating this piece of ourselves - who we are in the dark - is a potent pathway to realizing incredible Love and Power within. This Love and Power helps us navigate our ascension and move between the different dimensions that we may experience.
There are many cultures that celebrate festivals of consciousness around this time. I do not think this is random.
The Hindu festival of Maha Shivaratri - the night before the New Moon - celebrates the dance of creation and destruction. As we embrace this dance we learn to transcend darkness, hunger and ignorance.
Those of the Muslim faith honour this time as the Prophet’s Ascension. This is called Isra w’al Miraj, a long night’s journey followed by the ascension to Heaven.
Though it follows the solar calendar, this is also the week that those in the Buddhist faith celebrate Parinirvana - the day of the Buddha’s achievement of Nirvana (soul salvation).
This New Moon in many North American Native cultures is called the Snow Moon, mostly because snow in February is generally the heaviest; but also because it honours the time required to pause, reflect and introspect. Without this necessary time, we keep creating the world we lived in yesterday.
Unlike most cultural and religious festivals that are celebrated during the day, these festivals are of the night. To me, they deepen the connection between the planes - the 3D material journey of a person, with the 5D spirit journey of the Soul.
And so, ascension is in the air!
This New Moon is in the Zodiac sign of Pisces, which is the end of cycle. As the twin fish swim around each other in opposing directions, they symbolize and honour duality while also engaging with it; through engagement, they transcend.
As the last sign in Western Zodiac, Piscean energy is often called the Ocean of Consciousness. This Ocean includes the Rivers of each of the other 11 signs. Our previous year of intentions, actions, dreams, work, inactions, beliefs, faith come together to make waves in this Ocean.
In this energy, separation does not exist.
There are waves of different sizes at different times. There is calm and there is storm. More diverse life lives in our oceans than we can comprehend.
Here is where we begin and also where we end.
Dance of Faiths
The medicine of this Pisces New Moon is both cosmic and cellular, as it shows us our present belief in division and collectiveness.
It is important to reflect within and know where we stand in our truth and beliefs today, so that we know where and how to take our next steps.
For many people on the planet, Faith is synonymous with religion.
This is not the case for me.
I understand religion to be human-created arcane structures that organized groups of people by faith.
Faith, to me, just exists. It wasn’t created by humans. We feel feel it (or the absence of it), are moved by it as it animates us.
Whether we live it everyday, or just witness it from afar, we have been raised in age-old faith-based division. This is certainly religious, but also in our beliefs around who we are, what our world is, what we know (or do not know) the Divine to be and a many other personal and collective things.
A lot of material effort has been placed in maintaining these divisions between Hearts, Souls and Peoples. We have divided families, nations, lands and rivers in an egoic effort to maintain this human-created division.
Maybe because part of our identity comes from division.
Reinforced patterns that feel and sound like: ‘I am this, and not that.’
Therefore what I am ‘not’ defines me as much as what I am.
There is a safety and acceptance in what has been similar to us and a wrongness associated with what is not.
When I have found myself in this place, it has felt righteous at times. It has also felt sharp and effortful. I believe that is because it takes a lot of effort for a Soul to hate, divide and create illusions of otherness.
I understand this place within, as an expression of the wound of separation from Source, from Soul and from Spirit.
When we believe we are separate, we are divided and as such create conscious reasons for our division. This creates the otherness that we often see and feel around us.
And so in this Pisces New Moon, where no lines can be drawn in the Ocean of what is All and Eternal Consciousness, we have the opportunity to get to know ourselves in non-division.
This is a path in our individual ascension.
This non-division, is where all our diverse Faiths dance together.
My faith in mySelf hugs your faith in yourSelf.
My belief in the wise knowing of the Land and Rivers, thrives alongside your belief in your almighty Gods and Divine Beings.
Your Love is the light that shines into the darkness of my fears.
Your Inner Peace is the stable centre to the chaos of my war.
Our Faiths are, and have always been alive together in the vast collective consciousness.
Maybe we celebrated and wanted to learn about the Faiths of others, or we waged war against them.
Either way, all Faith exists now, at once, together.
Even what has been long lost in the sands of time.
This may bring about a quiet and surrendered Peace within us.
Or, it may challenge the very core of us - especially if do not wish to acknowledge ourselves as drops in the same ocean; as reflections of each other.
We are more defined and animated by our Faith than we think.
Maybe we truly only have faith in money and ideas of success, and we do not consider anything beyond the material.
Maybe our belief is that the world is a painful place full of suffering and we are helpless victims of it.
Maybe we have no faith in Life itself - ours or anyone else’s.
Maybe we believe that our way of life is superior to others.
When we are in these places, we act, decide and choose from here. As such, we come from our Faith, even if it lies undefined, unreclaimed and unconscious within us.
So, in a way, I interpret this New Moon in Pisces as a Reclamation of True Faith.
What is it that we have Faith in, in this moment?
What have we lost Faith in?
Where does our deepest strength and animation in Life come from?
What are our dreams made of these days?
Are we connected to Love, or are you a child of someone else’s war and division?
Once we know this, we can effort towards reclamation, humility, courage or creation, depending on what is required.
This isn’t about right and wrong faiths and beliefs, or casting out something we think is unworthy, bad or unlovable. Rather, it is an invitation to merge into Wholeness.
To merge in this way, requires us to engage and integrate any notions, ideas and beliefs of ‘otherness’; just like the two Pisces fish, or in the commonly known Yin-Yang symbols depict.
In the blood, sinew and cells of our Being, we cannot merge into Divine Allness when we resist what is ‘other’ or opposite.
Who are we when we Love ourselves is a potent journey of Self-Love.
Who are are when we Love All Selves - the mirror in every sentient life - is exquisite Bliss.
In this Bliss, there is also pain.
The pain of witnessing hatred, wars, cruelty and other divisive distractions in the words and actions around us.
But this is where the work of our surrender, acceptance and merging gives us a gift. Because we have embraced the dance of Faiths within - we are able to hold this great pain and even learn to Love it for what it is - a wound.
This is an expression of transcendence and healing ourSelves and beyond.
It is available to us in the coming days, should we choose it.
The activation and choice to ascend our consciousness lies in these coming Nights, waiting for us to desire, to dream, to intuit, to connect.
This is the integration of ‘Who We Are’ underneath the Sun and ‘Who We Are’ underneath the Moon. The union of our Wholeness.
It is our acceptance of everything we are (Sun) and everything we do not know we are or what we reject (Moon).
This is who we are at 2pm in the afternoon when we are working and doing and who we are at 2am, in our unconscious, vulnerable, powerful, sleeping state; and so, this is our identity and our worth and value as well.
This is how we become individuals.
This word - individual - comes to us from Latin.
‘In’ meaning not and ‘dividuus’ meaning divide.
Individual - meaning indivisible and non-dividable.
Whole and One.
Never separate from any aspect of the World, the Oceans and the Cosmos.
This Truth descends to us like lighting from the skies in this time.
So, if we not entrapped in adversity with one another based on beliefs and ideas, then who are are we truly?
That a question to ask our ourselves in the dark, un-illuminated by anything else.
Historically, this has been the work of Sages, Gurus and Priests. But today, this is not longer the case.
This is work for you and I, in the context of our days and our nights and how we are choosing to spend them, what we choose to connect to and how much we can drink from the Flow of Cosmic Truths.
In the choice, we are activated.
In the activation, we are in flow.
In Flow, we become the waves of Loving Consciousness that water our world.
From my heart to yours…
May you know yourself as your greatest Blessing,
May you be the Living Prayer that you utter,
May you Receive with unquenchable thirst Divine Truths that flow from within.
